ICDS launched at Lungchong Meiphoi, Ukhrul

Ukhrul, February 12 2009: The social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur has launched an Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) office for Lungchong Meiphoi, the latest block of Ukhrul district at the district headquarter yesterday.

MLA of Chingai AC, Dr Khasim Ruivah attended the launching ceremony as chief guest, Director of Social Welfare Department, Nabachandra and SDO Ukhrul, Sudhan, IAS, who is also in-charge of DC, Ukhrul district, were the guest of honour and president respectively.

It is worth mentioning that the Social Welfare Department had proposed setting up four ICDS centres for Ukhrul district last year.

It was approved by the Government on December 11 last year.

At present, there are 42 ICDS centres in Manipur.

The ICDS project was first introduced all over India with 33 projects on 15 October, 1975 .

Ukhrul district was included among them.
