MHHDCL starts selling goods of IDPs

The Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd (MHHDCL) has started selling the handloom and handicraft items crafted/woven by displaced people in relief camps after rebranding the products, said the Corporation Chairman cum Lamlai AC MLA Kh Ibomcha today.
He made the statement on the fifth day of the National Handloom Day organised by MHHDCL and Directorate of Handloom and Textiles at Pathoibi Arcade at Wangkhei, today.
A closing function of the Handloom Exhibition was also held at the same venue, today.
Speaking as the chief guest, Ibomcha said that the Corporation decided to procure the handloom and handicraft items crafted/woven by Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in bulk and sell the products after rebranding them so as to improve their (the IDPs) financial situation.
He also said that the role and importance of handloom and handicrafts in the country is immense as the sector has been providing a source of income to countless artisans.
Saying that the demand for State's handloom and handicraft items has been growing and the same is a success for the local artisans, the MLA added that the State Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, has also been taking up different initiatives to promote the handloom and handicraft items of Manipur and improve the financial situation of the artisans.
Ibomcha, meanwhile, said that the State Government will observe the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign from August 13 to August 15 to instil a sense of Nationalism among the people.
Saying that a unity of the people is needed to safeguard the integrity, he appealed to all sections of people to extend support to the Government in restoring normalcy in Manipur without compromising the interest of the people.
The MLA also advocated implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the context of Manipur, deportation of illegal immigrants, prevention of deforestation and promotion of peaceful coexistence among the original inhabitants of the State.
Managing Director of MHHDCL E Jiten, on the other hand, said that the Corporation sells the handicraft and handloom items crafted/woven by IDPs after rebranding and adding value to the products.
Saying that the people can buy these products from the office of MHHDCL at Paona Keithel, he appealed to the people to buy the products to encourage the IDPs.
