Workshop on elimination of single-use plastic held at Noney

Noney, April 11 2025: The 1st phase of district level consultative workshop on "Elimination of Single Used Plastics" (SUP's) was held today at DC Noney Conference Hall in Noney district headquarter.

The event was jointly organised by the District Administration Noney and the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur".

Speaking at the event, Noney DC Sharart Chandra Arroju, IAS, informed the DLO's that a drive to enforce single-use plastic ban in regards to Longmai areas will be launch shortly, jointly conducted by Police department, Longmai SDO and PHED Longmai.

He further said that a notification from the Office of DC Noney will also be issued soon to all the Government offices and private institutions under Noney District to declare their campuses as "plastic free zone", which is a part of the State wide programme to banned the single used plastics under the Manipur Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016."To effectively implement the ban of SUP's, a district nodal officer and a district level task force for Noney District will also be set up soon after consultation with the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur," added the DC.

Programme Officer, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Dr Habibula Khan highlighted that although there is strict imposition of all kinds of plastics or polythenes which are less than 120 microns since March 28, 2016, it has not been effectively implemented in the hill districts of Manipur.

The said order is supposed to be implemented in the hills district through the respective ADC's, he said.

Therefore, starting from April 15 this month, the said order will be enforced strictly in the State, he added.

He also cautioned the people to levy a fine of Rs 20,000 on open burning of plastic.

The consultative workshop was attended by Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Programme Officer, Gainaimei Kamei, DLO's of line department under Noney District and staff of Noney DC.

A DLO's meeting in regards to the proposed visit of Union MoS , MoHUA Tokhan Sahu on April 16 & 17, 2025 was also held after the workshop.
