Jiribam, July 10 2025:
The Manipuri Autonomous Council Demand Coordination Committee in collaboration with various civil society organizations in Assam, organized a sit-in protest demonstration in front of the Khudiram Bose Statue in Silchar, Cachar, raising their long-standing demand for the formation of an autonomous council for the Manipuri people residing in Assam.
Speaking at the gathering, ACS Santikumar, chairman of the Manipuri Autonomous Council Demand Coordination Committee, strongly criticized the Assam Government for failing to take necessary steps to fulfill the promise of creating the council, despite repeated assurances and ongoing public appeals.
He emphasized that the Manipuri Autonomous Council is vital for safeguarding the rights, identity and cultural heritage of the Manipuri community, which has no single representative in the State.
During the event, protesters held placards and chanted slogans such as "We Want Manipuri Autonomous Council, It is Our Constitutional Rights", reflecting the collective sentiment of the community.
A total of 10 organizations came together under the banner of the demand committee to voice their concerns.
