Maku village warns of 48-hr bandh on NH-102(A) over stalled projects

Ukhrul, March 10 2026: The Maku Village Authority in Kamjong district has issued an 11-day ultimatum to the concerned work agencies to resume pending development works in the village, failing which a 48-hour total bandh will be imposed along National Highway NH-102(A) passing through Maku village.

Speaking to our correspondent, the Headman of Maku village, AS Eleazer Zimik, informed that the PMGSY Road Package No MN-KMJ (A) MN09153, Phase-XI from TO2/BRTF Road to Maku was awarded to M/s HVS Construction Materials Pvt Ltd and executed under the Manipur State Rural Development Agency (MSRRDA) Engineering Cell (Hill-1) .

The road construction work reportedly commenced on October 27, 2018, and was scheduled to be completed within 18 months.

However, the blacktopping work was abruptly halted in March 2024 and has remained incomplete since then.

According to Zimik, apart from the road project, the ongoing construction of Infrastructure Support for a "Building-Less" Sub-Health Centre at Maku village under PM-ABHIM for financial year 2022-23 has also been left abandoned for over nine months.

The work was awarded to M/s Kshetrimayum but was later sublet to one Guneshor Singh for construction of the building.

Zimik farther alleged that the village authority had submitted multiple complaints to the Chief Engineer of RED/MSRRDA in Imphal, seeking inspection of the work site, claiming that the construction did not meet PMGSY guidelines.

However, no action has been taken so far, he said.

Meanwhile, Aleng Shaiza.

chairman of Maku Development Council (MDC), also expressed concern over the poor condition of the ongoing construction of the Primary Health Sub-Centre building.

He stated that the project, estimated at Rs 50.45 lakh, has suffered from poor work quality despite repeated appeals from the villagers to maintain proper quality.

The village leaders warned that if the concerned contractors and departments fail to address the issues within the stipulated 11-day period, the villages will be compelled to impose a 48-hour highway bandh along NH-102(A) passing through Maku village.
