Mob storms water supply facility

Thoubal, January 10 2026:
A large number of people stormed the Waithou Water Supply Scheme located at Waithou Pat demanding the resumption of water supply to its consumers.
Following, immense pressure from the mob, officials of PHED Thoubal turned on the water supply around 10 am today.
It is worth noting that Waithou Executive Youth Association (WEYA) and Waithou Apunba Meira Paibi had locked the Waithou Water Supply Scheme from December 24, 2025, due to its continued failure to extend water supply connection to five localities in Waithou area.
Today, a significant crowd of consumers led by 18 Club and Meetei Community Joint Coordinating Committee (MCJCC)- joint body of Waithou, Kiyam, Kiyam Siphai Haokha and Thoubal Khunou, stormed the water supply facility early this morning.
A Thoubal police team led by Thoubal Police Station OC also arrived at the scene to control the mob and prevent any unwanted incidents.
Due to mounting pressure from the mob, the Department successfully opened the locked gate of the water supply facility with the help of the police personnel and restored water service.
According to Kh Inaocha, treasurer, 18 Club, residents of Waithou had locked the Water Supply Scheme from December 24,2025 as a form of protest in view of the continued failure to ensure tap water connections to five localities in Waithou.
Owing to this, other consumers under the water supply scheme with tap connections faced acute water shortage.
Under such circumstances, 18 Club along with the affected consumers, had appealed the concerned authority to restore water supply by January 9 (yesterday) .
As the authorities failed to consider their appeal, the crowd stormed the water supply facility today, he shared.
On behalf of 18 Club and the consumers, he thanked the Department for restoring water supply services today.
On anothe2r note, he urged people to avoid obstructing the operation of the Waithou Water Supply Scheme as part of their protests.
