International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples observed widely

The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples was observed widely in die State today to raise awareness about the rights and well-being of indigenous populations and to protect their cultural heritage.
The day was marked by various events and activities aimed at educating the public about the unique challenges and contributions of indigenous communities, and promoting their active participation in development initiatives.
Today, the Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur, hosted the celebration of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples at Brighter Public English School, Andro Mamang Leikai.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Dr Atom Sunil Singh, Director, AIMS; Prof H Birkumar Singh, Chief Scientist, CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology, Lamphelpat; Dr Kh Somendro Singh, exDirector, ICM Guwahati; Prof Haobijam Vokendro Singh, Department of Anthropology, Manipur University; Puthem Ongbi Memcha, cultural activist; Maisnam Chanu Liklainu, Deputy Finance Officer, National Sports University; Dr S Manikanta Singh, retired Additional Director, Health Services, Manipur; Jinine Laishramcha, faculty, University of Suwon, South Korea; Asheibam Bele Singh, M.Sc Organic Agriculture, Wageningen University; Chingakham Khulachandra, Principle, Brighter Public School; Moirangthem Hemanta Singh, former Minister; Mayanglambam Khelendro Singh, President, AIMS; and N Ratan Meetei, Director, AIMS.
The observance began with a welcome address by Dr Puthem Jugeshor Singh, Assistant Professor, Khongnangthaba University, followed by a keynote address by Dr Atom Sunil Singh.
As part of the event, a book titled "Hidak Kanaraba Pambishing: A Treatise of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants" written by Prof H Birkumar Singh was released.
Similarly, Manipur People's Party (MPP) also celebrated the International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples at its conference hall in Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.
It was attended by MPP working president (administration) M Sharat Singh and working president (chief spokesperson & media coordinator) Dr S Ibomcha Singh as presidium members.
During the event, Dr S Ibomcha gave a talk on the topic "Defending Right, Shaping Future".
Moreover, Federation of Indigenous People's Democratic Movement (FIDM also observed the International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples at Sana Konung Uttra Sanglen today.
It was attended by Sana Konung's Angom Ningthou, Angom Poireiton; FIDM president, Wahengbam Shanta Meitei; Pole Star College, Assistant Professor, Nangom Binodkumar Meitei; Federation of Haomee president, Sapamcha Jadumani; FIDM legal advisor, Mutum Gourahari; and social activist Dr Haibijam Gitajen as presidium members.
The event was marked by the presentation of awards to six women who are followers of the Sanamahi faith, below 45 years of age and have more than 5 children.
Similarly, the International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples was also celebrated at the Law Department Hall, Manipur University, jointly organised by the Department of Law and Centre of Human Rights & Duties Education, Manipur University.
