Awareness programme on "Drug addiction and substance abuse" held at Noney

An awareness and education programme on "Drug Addiction & Substance Abuse" was organised today at Dolang Chiru village, Noney district.
The programme was organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Tamenglong, in collaboration with Khongnangthaba University under the banner of Kangleipak Foundation and Inpui Development Association.
The ceremony began with an inaugural prayer by Mathew Thoirei, Dolang Chiru village chairman, invoking God's blessings for the significant implementation of the programme.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ch Gesper (Korung) Maring, social activist, highlighted the catastrophic impact of drug addiction and substance abuse among young people, families, and the society as a whole.
He gave startling statistics on the growing rate of addiction in Manipur and strongly pleaded for preventive education and community-based intervention measures to check the scourge.
Adding more depth to the session, Baanchui Khumba, secretary, Inpui Development Association, Haochong Village, Noney District, provided motivating stories of rehabilitation and recovery.
Emphasising the significance of involving people from the community, support from families, and rehabilitation programmes as key elements to battle drug abuse.
Khumba urged the youth to remain active in constructive community work and to create a culture of care, compassion, and unity.
The programme came to an end with a closing prayer facilitated by Jonah Thorei, Church Elder, in which appreciation for the effective conduct of the programme was offered and prayed for ongoing community action in curbing drug abuse.
The Awareness & Education Programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from village residents, youth representatives, and local leaders, all demonstrating collective resolve to create a drug-free community.
