28th Loktak Day celebrated at Komlakhong

Loktak Day Celebration Committee, Komlakhong celebrated the 28th Loktak Day at Komlakhong Chingthi, Imphal West district today under the theme, "Save Loktak Our Life" .
The celebration was graced by dignitaries, including.
Yumnam Joykumar, president, NPP Manipur; Urikhimbam Ramesh, vice president, NPP Manipur; Irengbam Nalini, MLA, Oinam Assembly Constituency; RK Rameshwar, vice president, NPP Manipur; Nongthombam Bidyarani, president, NPYM Manipur; and S Malemkhomba Meitei, Executive Engineer, LDA.
NPP Manipur general secretary (administration) Russel Heisnam, general secretary (IT & frontal organisation) Laitonjam Jayananda, general secretary (CSOs outreach, research & advocacy) Ratika Yumnam, executive member Mayengbam Ranjit and NPP National Committee member Maibam Dhanabir were also present at the event.
At the event, speakers highlighted that Loktak Day is observed annually to promote the conservation of Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Northeast India.
They shared that the Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of Loktak Lake, which is vital for the Manipur valley's ecosystem, climate change mitigation, and local livelihoods.
They also emphasized that people, particularly local communities and fisherfolk, play a crucial role in saving Loktak Lake by participating in conservation efforts, advocating for policy changes, and adopting sustainable practices to mitigate sedimentation from deforestation and other anthropogenic pressures.
The event was marked by the presentation of gifts to aged fisherfolk living in the vicinity of the lake and cultural programmes.
