Chandel, August 07 2025:
A three-day training on "Natural Dyeing Techniques", organised by the Divisional Forest Officer Chandel concluded today at Lambung Community Hall, Chandel.
The training programme held under Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme commenced on August 5 .
The closing function of the training programme was attended by Dr N Munal Meitei, DFO Chandel as chief guest; LH Noah, chief of Lambung Village as functional president; JS Anagam, president of Japhou Bazar Board and president, Maha Area Chiefs Association as guest of honour along with ST Wanhring, chief trainer and St Vega, Head Master of Lambung Primary School as special invitees.
Addressing the gathering, Dr N Munal Meitei, DFO Chandel expressed confidence that the 43 trainees who participated would make the best use of the training and contribute meaningfully to society.
He emphasised that the training was designed to teach participants how to extract dyes from natural sourceplants and animals, without harming the environment.
He highlighted that the villagers have long known how to extract dyes from nature, and the programme aimed to build upon this wisdom while ensuring environmental sustainability.
He also raised concerns over the harmful effects of chemical dyes, particularly their impact on human health.
He noted that some food colours still in use at various eatery shops and hotels pose serious health risks and stressed the importance of ensuring that food colour used, especially in consumables, fall within permissible safety limits.
Encouraging the trainees, Dr Munal appealed to them to implement their learnings once back in their villages.
"Be not just someone who seeks a job, but someone who creates jobs for others," he urged.
