Transport Secretary distributes road safety equipment

As part of the continued efforts to enhance road safety and traffic management across Manipur, Michael Achom, Secretary (Transport), Government of Manipur on Wednesday distributed road safety equipment to be used by the offices of Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, Imphal East and Traffic Control Police Wing.
The distribution ceremony held at Manipur State Transport (MST) complex was also attended by the Director (Transport), Deputy Director (Transpor) and other officers of the Transport Department, said a release.
The equipment distributed today are modem breath analysers, speed radar guns, reflective jackets, traffic cones, LED batons, barricades, and other critical tools required for effective enforcement and safer road environments.
These items were procured under the Manipur Road Safety Fund with the objective of strengthening on-ground capabilities of the traffic police and reducing accidents on busy roadways.
Senior officials from the Transport Department, Manipur Police, and Traffic Police Wing were present at the event.
At the event, the Director (Transport) emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between enforcement agencies and the public to promote a culture of road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.
The SPs of Imphal West and Imphal East expressed appreciation for the timely support, noting that the new equipment will greatly aid in routine checks, night patrolling, and emergency responses.
The event marks a significant step toward realizing the State Government's vision for safer roads and improved traffic discipline across Manipur.
Notably, a total of 19,092 e-challans were issued during the drive carried out extensively by the Transport Department and Traffic Control Police Wing since 2024.Out of the total challans, 1,723 have been paid, amounting to Rs 27.10 lakh while 17,366 challans, with a cumulative amount of Rs 3.19 crore, remain pending.
