Workshop on 'Championing Gender Equality' held

A 1-day training workshop for 'Gender Champions' was successfully conducted under the theme, "Championing Gender Equality: Empowering Youth and Embracing Diversity" at the Training Hall, DVSSD, Manipur University, Canchipur today.
The workshop was organised by the Gender Champions, MU, in collaboration with the Internal Complaints Committee, MU .
The workshop was graced by dignitaries, including Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor, MU; Prof A Rajmani Singha, Director, IQAC; and Prof RK Lonibala, Presiding Officer, ICC.
As per a release issued by Gender Champions, MU, the inaugural session commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr Yumlembam Khogen, Nodal Teacher, Gender Champions.
It was followed by the distribution of Identity Cards, Badges, and IEC materials to the newly appointed 9 Gender Champions, emphasizing their vital role as catalysts for change in fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Lokendra lauded the initiative as an important step toward translating the vision of SEX3 5 (Gender Equality) into action within university spaces.
Prof Lonibala underlined the need for inclusive participation of men, women, and transgender persons, in line with the Ministry of Women and Child Development and UGC's guidelines, which advocate gender sensitization and leadership among youth in higher education.
The workshop featured four technical sessions covering core themes of gender equity and social transformation.
Dr Mayanglambam Lilee, Director, Women's Studies Centre, delivered the first session on "Utilizing Key Concepts of Gender Studies & Realization of Gender Justice".
Dr Thajamanbi Yumkham, Department of Law, spoke on "Gender-based Discrimination, Relevant Laws, and Policies towards Gender Equality" while Dr Beoncy Laishram, Medical Officer, elaborated on "Gender Biases and Stereotypes: Reflections and Responses" and Gurumayum Ravi Sharma.
Administrator, Women Helpline (181), gave a talk on "Behavior Change and Action Planning for Addressing Gender Issues" .
