Imphal, October 06 2026:
The Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union has called out the Government of India for its "failure" to acknowledge cross-border terrorism, and accused it of sidelining the Manipur Government from the tripartite SoO talk.
The Suspension of Operations (SoO) is a tripartite agreement between the Government of Manipur, Government of India and umbrella Kuki militant organisations, Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People's Front (UPF) .
However, despite resolutions taken by the Manipur State Cabinet and the Assembly to scrap the SoO agreement, the Government of India has continued to enforce it, said the MMTU in a statement.
It alleged that the SoO agreement was extended for a period of one year on September 4, 2025 in "absence" of the Manipur Government.
While it is not yet clear whether the agreement has been extended or not this year, the SoO remains enforced, it added.
Notably, the SoO agreement which is extended for a period of one year at a time, and it was last extended in 2025 when Manipur was under President's Rule.
While the State Cabinet and the Assembly in past had taken the resolutions to scrap the SoO agreement identifying it as a pact which enabled the conflict in the State and militant attacks on indigenous peoples, the Government of India has remained unbothered and continues to enforce the agreement.
This clearly reflects that the Government of India doesn't value Manipur Government's decisions and its place in the tripartite SoO talks, said the MMTU .
Further accusing the Government of India of emboldening the SoO militants, the MMTU also pointed out its failure to protect and guard India's Manipur-Myanmar border region.
Several villages in Kamjong district which borders Myanmar have faced multiple attacks and arson carried out by Myanmar based-militant outfits, KNA(B) and PDF.
However, the Government of India has not yet acknowledged these attacks as external aggression and taken any action, said the MMTU .
On September 24 recently, Pilong village in Kamjong district was attacked by Myanmar based militants.
Four civilians including a father and son were killed in the attack.
Earlier on May 7, three Kamjong villages Z Choro, Wanglee and Namlee were attacked by KNA(B) and PDF cadres.
Even when there is abundant evidence, the Government of India, which is proud of its military actions against terrorist camps in Pakistan following Pulwama and Pahalgam attacks, has however failed to even acknowledge cross border terrorism in the Manipur- Myanmar border area, it said.
The MMTU, further, pointed out to the Government of India that the Manipur conflict must certainly be part of a larger attempt to carve parts of Bangladesh, Myanmar and India (Manipur) to establish a Christian country in the interest of the United States and its Western allies.
While the United States is allegedly funding the civil war in Myanmar by backing the insurgents through its "Burma Act 2022", the Manipur conflict must clearly serve as a catalyst towards establishing the Christian country as planned, said the MMTU .
The Government of India, if it continues to ignore and neglect the plight of the people of Manipur, may force them to question the value and benefits of being Indian citizens and even seek China's help for protection, added the MMTU .
