Two co-accused surrender

Two guest lecturers of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) surrendered before the Court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Imphal West 1 this afternoon in connection with the alleged kidnapping and rape case of a student by Yumnam Surjitkumar, managing director cum founder of SIMS on August 14.Two guest lecturers identified as Nonibala Chanu alias Sonia Yambem (29) d/o Kulla of Bamon Kampu and Laishram Kunjarani (28) d/o Ibopisak of Top Khongnang Makhong were later arrested by a team of women police station, Imphal West.
They were on the run to avoid arrest for more than three months and a half in connection with the case before they surrendered themselves before the Court today.
On October 13, High Court of Manipur Justice MV Muralidaran's Single Bench had dismissed the anticipatory bail applications filed by the two guest lecturers, managing director cum founder of SIMS Yumnam Surjit Kumar 42 s/o Saratchandra of Khurai Khongkham Leikai and assistant director SIMS, SK Wajid Shah (34) s/o Kiramuddin of Hangul Makha Leikai.
Before that, a Session Court had also rejected their anticipatory bail applications in August.
Notably a case was registered against them after a complaint was lodged by the victim at women police station, Imphal West.
Since then, the main accused and the co-accused were on run before the two guest lecturers surrendered themselves before the Court today.
