Alumni group aids in treatment of displaced persons

In continuation of their humanitarian work, the Alumni DM College of Science (XII 1996-TDC 1999 Batch) has helped three displaced persons go through much-needed surgical procedures in consultation with alumni members who are practicing doctors.
The alumni group also handed over medicines worth more than Rs 30,000 to Khoirom Manjuri who is currently recovering from a brain surgery on January 8 .
She is an inmate at Ithai Relief Camp, Bishnupur and hails from Torbung Waikhurok.
With the help of the alumni group, 18 year old Wahengbam Sonia Chanu from Ithai Relief Camp, Bishnupur underwent a major surgery yesterday to remove a vascular malformation (mass/lump) on her neck at JNIMS Hospital.
The operation was successfully performed by Dr Shafaba (ENT) .
The alumni group also facilitated the gallbladder surgery (keyhole) of two displaced women, Y Rupa Devi (65) and Meitram Shantibala (56) staying at Kumbi Awang Khunou High School Relief Camp and Ithai Relief Camp, Bishnupur respectively.
Both medical procedures were done at JNIMS Hospital.
Y Rupa's keyhole operation was done on January 20 while Meitram Shantibala's surgery was performed on February 6 .
The two originally hail from Torbung Govindpur and Torbung Waikhurok respectively.
Alumni member Dr Irom Anil from Hematology Department of JNIMS Hospital provided significant help in ensuring that all the operations are carried out without any hitch.
Additionally, in the interest of diabetes patients at Ithai Relief Camp, Alumni DM College of Science (XII 1996-TDC 1999 Batch) also handed over a refrigerator to the camp inmates to ensure proper storage of insulin.
It is also worth noting that Alumni DM College of Science has consistently organised free medical camps across various relief centres since violence erupted on May 3, 2023 .
On top of such camps, the group has helped many inmates get much-needed medical procedures.
