Imphal, January 04 2008: Demanding commensurate punishment against the doctor involved in the death of Rabei and denouncing the alleged practice of RIMS doctors paying more attention to private hospitals/clinics, a protest demonstration was staged at Sagolband Moirang Leirak bus parking today.

Haobam Rabei of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda Mamang Leikai was admitted in RIMS as a goitre patient on December 23 .

He underwent surgery on December 29.At about 9 pm of the same day, there was profuse bleeding on the part where the surgical wound was.

One PG student dressed the wound and went away.

But soon after, Rabei complained of breathing difficulty and succumbed in the next moment.

Wife of Rabei who took part in the protest sitting said that the doctor who performed the operation tried to shrug away responsibility saying that "I did not perform the operation, I don't know about it" instead of paying attention to the problems and condition of the patient after surgery.

She also appealed to the RIMS authority to look into the matter and establish the truth.
