Paraolon ambush trial gets underway

Imphal, October 03 2016: Captain Korrapati Subhas, Resident Medical Officer of 6 Dogra Regiment today gave his statement before the Special Judge, National Investigation Agency (NLA) at Cheirap Court as the first witness of the NIA trial case number 1 of 2016 regarding last year's Paraolon (Chandel) ambush in which 18 soldiers of Dogra Regiment were killed.

The alleged accused of the case Kunlo Abi Anal alias Ambison 37 s/o Khumlo Kunjo Anal of Lalambung village, Chandel was pro- duced before the Court during the trial hearing.

He is currently lodged in Sajiwa Central Jail.

While deposing before the Court, Captain Korrapati Subhas said that on June 4 last year he received information about ambush by militants upon a convoy of Dogra Regiment at around 8.15 am after which he along with the officiating commandant rushed to the spot and reached there at around 9.30 am .

After reaching the spot, they provided treatment and evacuated the victims from the spot and later at around 6 pm of the same day as per the command of the officiating officer, he lodged a written complaint and an FIR at Tengnoupal police station The NIA Court Inter fixed October 20 for the next hem ing of prosecution witnesses It may be mentioned that after one of the worst attacks on the convoy of Dogra regi ment in which I8 soldiers were killed NIA Guwahati took up a case regarding the attack and started due investigation by visiting the spot.

The alleged accused self styled Chairman of NSCN-K Amamchat Region Kunlo Abi Anal was arrested by a team conducted the test after a report was received from a private hospital.

Apart from initiating due precautionary measures, mosquito larvae have been collected from the house of of Imphal West police commando from Lamphel Sanakeithel a few days after the ambush.

He was formally arrested by a team of NIA Guwuhati led by un Addi tionnl SP on July 29 last year in accordance with an order issued by the Court.

The Court issued the same order in response to an up plication filed by NIA Guwahati for formal arrest of the accused.

At that time, the alleged accused was in judicial custody.

NIA through its Court sent summons to leaders of some underground militant groups but they did not appear before the Court On December 19 last year, NIA Guwahati submitted their charge sheet before the special Judge NIA with a list of 64 prosecution witnesses.

The Court registered the case on January 12, 2016 .

Charges were framed against the alleged accused by a special NIA Court on April 16 and trial of the case started today.
