Imphal, August 03 2026: The non-cooperation movement launched by the All Manipur Airtel Workers' Union (AMAWU) since July 15, demanding a pay hike and other incentives, has been suspended till September 15 .

Even as the protest has been suspended, AMAWU cautioned that the agitation would be intensified if its demands are not addressed.

Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) general secretary L Sotinkumar said that there are around 400 Airtel towers in the State, yet many workers of the telecom company continue to receive only minimum wages.

Endorsing the demand of AMAWU, he said several Airtel workers are paid as little as Rs 6,500 per month and that their salaries have not been revised since 2015 .

Stating that the workers' demand for a minimum salary of Rs 14,000 is reasonable, Sotinkumar urged the relevant authorities to consider their demand.

He said that AMAWU decided to suspend its protest after the Airtel authorities in Shillong agreed to consider their demands.
