Thoubal, June 03 2026:
The Students' Union of Lilong Haoreibi College has appealed to the Government of Manipur and the concerned authorities to immediately appoint a regular Principal at the college, citing serious administrative and development setbacks caused by the prolonged vacancy.
In a statement, the union said that Lilong Haoreibi College, located in a minority-concentrated area, is one of the few institutions providing higher education opportunities to students particularly from the Meitei Pangal community.
Despite its significant role in promoting education among minority students, the college has been functioning without a regular Principal for a long period of time.
The union stated that the absence of a regular Principal has severely affected the overall administration and development of the college.
It alleged that the college has been unable to effectively avail various grants and development funds from the University Grants Commission (UGC), resulting in a lack of new infrastructure and academic development projects.
According to the union, the continued practice of appointing only an in-charge Principal has further hampered the growth and progress of the institution.
It maintained that the college is currently facing a critical situation, with both academic and infrastructural development coming to a standstill.
Expressing concern over the future of the institution and its students, the union warned that continued delay in appointing a regular Principal could adversely affect the college's long-term prospects.
The Students' Union urged the Chief Minister of Manipur and the concerned authorities to give immediate attention to the issue and appoint a regular Principal at the earliest in the larger interest of the students and the overall development of the college.
