Imphal, October 02 2025: The State joined in paying befitting tribute to the Father of the Nation on his 15 6th birth anniversary today.

Cleanliness drives were held widely in the State, reflecting Mahatma Gandhi's ideals of cleanliness, civic responsibility and people's participation.

Forest Department

As part of the nationwide observance of Gandhi Jayanti, the Forest Department, Government of Manipur, conducted a special cleanliness drive at the Forest Office Complex, Mantripukhri.

The programme also marked the culmination of the Seva Parv and Nation @75 campaign, reinforcing the message of collective responsibility towards cleanliness, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Nadhe, Divisional Forest Officer, Central Forest Division, reiterated that the Forest Office Complex, Mantripukhri, is a Single-Use Plastic Free Campus.

He highlighted that the initiative is part of a larger vision to reduce use of ecologically harmful plastic, conserve resources, and set an example of eco-friendly workplace practices.

He emphasized the department's adoption of e-Office to promote paperless governance, reducing the burden on forests and ensuring efficiency and transparency.

Nadhe also noted that the trees within the complex are being regularly maintained, underlining the department's commitment to creating a model green campus.

Kunjey Singh, DFO Social Forestry Division, underlined the vital role of social forestry initiatives in Manipur.

He stressed that promoting plantations in both rural and urban areas would not only increase the green cover but also contribute to livelihood generation, climate resilience, and community empowerment.

The drive was led by Range Officer Tipuraj Thoijam, along with enthusiastic participation from David Athokpam, Dinesh, Monika, Jayraj, and the dedicated staff and officers of the Forest Office Complex, Mantripukhri.

With their collective efforts, the campus was cleaned, beautified, and given a renewed focus on sustainable upkeep.

The event concluded with a pledge by the officers and staff to continue maintaining the Forest Office Complex as a model campus for eco-friendly governance and to spread the message of cleanliness and sustainability in their respective areas of work.

CRPF

On the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Dett-232 (M) Bn, F/232 (M) Bn and B/232 (M) Bn CRPF organised a "Safai Abhiyan" at Old Lambulane, Imphal under the leadership of Th Debajani Devi, DC.

Dett-232, B/232, and F/ 232 companies of the CRPF battalion actively participated in the event which was held under the theme, "Swachhata Hi Seva".

The Abhiyan was conducted with the aim to spread the message of cleanliness, hygiene, and patriotism among the citizens, in alignment with Mahatma Gandhi's ideals, the vision of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and the spirit of "Swachhata Hi Seva".

Considering the recent outbreak of Dengue in the Imphal area, fogging was also carried out to reduce mosquito infestation and maintain a clean and disease-free environment.

The Abhiyan was led by Th Debajani Devi and several senior officers of CRPF took part in the programme, including Company Commanders Y Landhoni Devi, AC F/232 (M) Bn and Insp/GD (M) Sukanti Lata Patra, B/232 (M)Bn.

The event also witnessed active participation from local residents, who enthusiastically joined the campaign and pledged to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

Sanitation Workers Award

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Member of Parliament Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who also serves as the Chairman of the Airport Advisory Committee, handed over awards and prize money to sanitation workers of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, in recognition of their dedicated service.

The selection was based on an objective assessment carried out through peer review among co-workers, along with ratings from supervisors and airport officials.

The process sought to highlight efficiency, teamwork, and commitment to maintaining cleanliness at the airport.

The awards were presented to the following sanitation workers - H Binashakhi (1st prize), L Gambini (2nd prize) and I Rajen (3rd prize).

Consolation prizes were also awarded to Y Sanahanbi, P Inaocha, and Kh Pramodini.

The initiative, held on Gandhi Jayanti, sought to motivate the sanitation workforce, instill a sense of pride in their contribution, and uphold the values of dignity of labour as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi.
