International Day of Older Persons observed widely

Kakching/Kamjong/Kangpokpi/Thoubal/Tengnoupal, October 01 2026:
The International Day of Older Persons (IDOP), 2026, with the theme "The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives" was observed widely across the State today honouring the contributions of older people.
Kakching
Health for All Organisation (HFAO) in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office Kakching observed the International Day for Older Persons 2026 at HFAO Senior Citizen Home for Women at Arong Khunou.
As a part of the programme, pension and gifts were presented to the elderly people.
Hiyanglam AC MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam; Kakching District SP Priyadarshini Laishram; District Social Welfare Officer, Kakching S Asha and HFAO chief functionary H Premkumar attended as the presidium members of the programme among others.
Speaking at the event, Dr Yumnam Radheshyam urged all to make collective efforts for restoration of peace and harmony in the State.
Meanwhile, Mera Yuva Bharat, Kakching under the aegis of the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India observed the day by presenting gifts to the elderly people.
Kamjong
IDOP 2026 was observed today at Ramrei Community Hall, Phungyar Block, Kamjong district with active participation from senior citizens and local communities.
The observation was organised by the District Social Welfare Office, Kamjong in association with the District Administration, Kamjong.
The observation was aimed at honouring the essential role played by older persons, while highlighting general concerns including healthcare accessibility, financial security and social isolation among senior citizens.
During the programme, an interaction session with the elderly attendees were held emphasising their welfare, care and well-being.
Later, gifts and tokens were distributed to the participating senior citizens.
The District Social Welfare Office, Kamjong also observed various programmes in different villages of Phungyar and Kasom Khullen Blocks in connection with the IDOP, with participation of senior citizens.
Kangpokpi
IDOP), 2026, was celebrated at the Conference Hall in the presence of Additional DC Lamminlal Simte, in collaboration with the District Administration Kangpokpi and District Social Welfare Office.
Tengnoupal
As part of Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, the District Social Welfare Office, Tengnoupal under the supervision of the District Administration, Tengnoupal observed the IDOP 2026 at Aimol Tampak Community Hall today.
Distribution of Old Age pension cards, walking sticks and gifts were the main events of the observance.
Thoubal
The observance of Older Persons was held at Integrated Rural Development And Educational Organisation (IRDEO) in Wangbal in Thoubal district.
IRDEO Wangbal organised the observation under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Social Justice And Empowerment, Government of India.
Khangabok AC MLA Okram Surjakumar; Senior Citizens Welfare Forum Manipur president Dr Maibam Rajendra Singh; former Minister Dr Moirangthem Nara; Senior Citizens Welfare Forum Manipur secretary Mutum Nabachandra Singh and District Social Welfare Officer Thoubal Kanghujam Nongpoknganba Salaicha graced as the presidium members of the observance.
During the programme, the resource persons deliberated on the significance of observing older persons day and spoke on the challenges faced by elderly persons and how to take precautionary measures to overcome these challenges.
As a part of the observation, a free medical camp for the elderly people and an 'Udyog Mela' showcasing plastic and water reed products made by the elderly inmates of different senior citizens homes in Thoubal district were held.
In line with the observation, a drawing competition for students was also organised.
