World Breastfeeding Week 2025 observed

Joining the rest of the world, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed World Breast feeding Week 2025 today at the General OPD Complex, RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
As per a release issued by RIMS, the event was organised in collaboration with the Breastfeeding Promotion Alliance of Manipur (BPAM) under the theme, "Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems".
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Ng Uttam Singh, Director, IPR; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital; and Dr James Elangbam, Secretary, BPAM.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar underscored the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for six months as recommended by WHO and called for stronger workplace support and media involvement to raise awareness.
Ng Uttam Singh, Director, DIPR, highlighted the need for mother-friendly public spaces and noted that breast milk- rich in nutrients, antibodies, and living cells is irreplaceable and fosters lifelong mother-child bonding.
An awareness session was held as part of the event, which included the distribution of IEC (Information, Education & Communication) materials, and demonstration/exhibition of breastfeeding-related models set up at dedicated stalls within the OPD complex.
The programme was attended by the Deputy Director (Admn), Dean (Academics), Heads of Departments, Principal of Dental College, Principal of the College of Nursing, Nursing officials, faculty members, staff, and students, reflecting a united institutional commitment to promoting maternal and child health through breastfeeding.
