Imphal, February 01 2026:
A one-day youth awareness programme on "Eramdam Kangleipak Kannabagidamak Youth Singna Lougadaba Thoudang" (Role of youth in safeguarding Manipur) was held today at Wangoo Laipham, Kakching district.
The programme was organised by the Youth Front, Wangoo.
The event was attended by Social Scientist Dhanabir Laishram; Wayel Kati editor Hemantakumar Ningombam; Wangoo Gram Panchayat Pradhan Loitongbam Sharat alias Tona; Youth Front Wangoo President L Jayenta; Secretary T Ibochouba; Cashier H Naobi; and Advisors Amom Pheijao, Th Dhamendra; Amom Solomon, among others, as presidium members.
Speaking as a resource person, Wayel Kati editor Hemantakumar Ningombam said that the suffering and hardships faced by the people today stem largely from the failure to elect capable and responsible people's representatives.
He warned that the future of Manipur would remain uncertain if incapable and irresponsible leaders continue to be elected.
He stated that Manipur, which was protected and safeguarded through the sacrifices of forefathers, is now facing serious threats due to the intrusion of illegal immigrants from outside with motives that could undermine the State's integrity.
He further said that while Manipur has long been home to diverse communities that have coexisted peacefully and will continue to do so, the State cannot be broken or destabilised by illegal immigrants entering from outside.
Hemanta further expressed concern that certain sections of society are pursuing narrow community-based agendas, which, he said, have pushed Manipur into turmoil, despair and chaos.
He remarked that calls to safeguard Manipur have primarily been raised by the Meitei community, adding that despite such efforts, the future of Manipur now largely depends on decisions taken by the Government of India following Manipur's merger with the Indian Union.
Meanwhile, Social Scientist Dhanabir Laishram delivered detail insights on positive thinking, the role of youth in shaping society, moral character and positive behaviour at home and in social coexistence.
He emphasised the responsibility of youth in building a harmonious and resilient society.
An interactive session followed, during which the participants shared their views and engaged in discussions on the role of youth in protecting Manipur and strengthening social harmony.
