FATYCM raises concern over delay in compensation for NH-202 land acquisition

Ukhrul, November 30 2025: The Federation of Tribal Youth Club (FATYCM), Manipur, has voiced strong disappointment over the prolonged delay in disbursing compensation for land acquired by the Government for the expansion of National Highway-202 (Ukhrul to Jessami Road).

Despite repeated appeals, many affected families continue to wait for their rightful compensation, leaving them financially strained and emotionally distressed.

According to FATYCM, the land was acquired as early as October 31, 2020, but compensation has either been withheld, partially released, or excessively delayed without transparent justification.

The organisation stated that the delay violates Article 300A of the Constitution, which protects citizens from being deprived of property without due process of law.

It further pointed to violations of provisions under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (RFCTLARR Act, 2013) .

The federation alleged negligence and incompetence on the part of authorities, claiming that many families have suffered severe hardships as their agricultural, homestead, or commercial lands were taken with the expectation of timely compensation.

They also highlighted flaws in land classification, urging officials to resolve these discrepancies swiftly.

FATYCM urged authorities to expedite the construction work to ensure safety and convenience for commuters, noting that the prolonged delay has hindered progress on a crucial infrastructure project.

The organisation called upon the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul and the Sub-Divisional Officers of Ukhrul and Chingai to uphold constitutional values and deliver justice to the affected households without further delay.
