Imphal, August 29 2026: Freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang was fondly remembered today on his 95th death anniversary.

Rich tributes were paid to the freedom fighter as Freedom Fighter Haipou Jadonang Death Anniversary and Park Committee observed the death anniversary today at Jadonang Park, Keishampat here.

The death anniversary function was graced by MLA RK Imo as chief guest and Zeliangrong Union (AMN) president Lungsu Panmei as president.

Native Peoples Committee Manipur convenor Ashang Kasar, International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) working president Athouba Khuraijam, Inpui president M Ngaranmi, ICHAM advisor N Rajendro and FFHJDA chairman Jamanglung Dangmei as guests of honour.

The function commenced with offering of floral tributes to Haipou Jadonang and presentation of a patriotic song before the gathering observed a two-minute silence in honour of the freedom fighter.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA RK Imo stressed the urgency for Naga and Meitei people to join hands and work collectively.

He appealed to both the Naga and Meitei communities to join hands and face the challenges faced by the indigenous communities collectively.

Imo said that illegal immigrants will not reach Im- phal at first.

It is the hill areas which will bear the first impact of illegal immigrants, he added.

The MLA appealed to all the indigenous communities to work together and see that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated.

Expressing deep concern and sorrow over the recent violence suffered by the Naga people, the MLA said that he wrote a letter to the Chief Minister today appealing for extensive combing operations throughout the State and to save Manipur.

RK Imo asserted that strong actions must be initiated against all those elements scheming to break up Manipur.

Ashang Kasar said that the sacrifices made by Haipou Jadonang is a matter of immense pride for the Zeliangrong community.

He said that the Jadonang Park must be developed properly so that the younger generations can learn the life story of Haipou Jadonang and his struggle for freedom.

Ashang Kasar said that the mass movement in pursuit of the collective demand for implementation of NRC is going on in several hill areas too.

He said that the movement is fully supported by the hill people.

Saying that it's time for the indigenous people to wake up, he appealed to all indigenous communities to fight the myriad challenges collectively and work together to build a united Manipur.

Athouba Khuraijam said that many hill people took key part in several wars fought by Manipur throughout its long history.

"We need to find out those heroes and document their stories properly", he said.

He also underscored the need to narrate the exploits and sacrifices made by Haipou Jadonang to the younger and future generations.

FFHJDA chairman Jamanglung Dangmei said that the Haipou Jadonang Park, Keishampat will be opened on Sundays and second Saturdays.

The Kabui Union Manipur too observed the 95th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at their head office at Mahabali Kabui village.

Kabui Customary Council president K Gangmumei Kabui opened the function with offering of sacred wine to God.

Speaking at the function, Gangmumei Kabui said that British rulers executed Haipou Jadonang on the fabricated charge of murder for they were extremely disturbed by the activities of Jadonang.

"It is a matter of immense pride that a martyr like Haipou Jadonang took birth in our community", he said.

Kabui Union Manipur president Lanbon Kabui asserted that no census exercise should be carried out in Manipur until and unless the NRC is updated.

He appealed to the Government to carry out census operations only after the NRC is updated with 1951 as base year and all illegal immigrants are deported.

Illegal immigrants have been killing people with impunity, blocking National Highways at will and directly threatening the integrity of Manipur by openly demanding a separate administration, he added.

Kabui Women Organisation vice president Kachunganglu Kabui and Kabui Union Bishnupur chairman G Jiten Kabui too attended the death anniversary function.
