Chandel, November 28 2025:
A hands-on training programme for police personnel on handling of biometric machines for registration of illegal immigrants was held today at the conference hall of DC Office, Chandel.
The training programme was organised by District Administration, Chandel.
At the event, Deputy Commissioner Chandel, Laishram Nanda Kumar, IAS, asserted that illegal immigrants have been detected in Chandel district like they have been detected in border areas of other districts.
As per the directive of the Ministry of Home Affairs, they will undergo biometric registration and then be deported, he said.
Earlier, the registration process was done through physical forms.
But now it will be done online through the Foreigners Identification Portal, according to the Ministry's instructions.
Their nationality will be noted and those whose nationality are not known will undergo a separate process, he added.
Despite the Ministry's instructions, lack of internet accessibility in the border areas of Chandel district proved to be an obstacle in online biometric registration of foreigners.
As a result, they are preparing to get help from Assam Rifles and use their internet to execute the biometric registration of illegal immigrants as soon as possible, said the Chandel DC .
Therefore, today's training programme was held to educate the police personnel who will be directly involved in the process so as to educate them on the proper handling of biometric machines.
