Senapati, February 27 2025:
The Naga Women's Union (NWU) has strongly condemned the recent incident that happened near Lairouching in Senapati district on February 22 night, where some Army officials were allegedly caught when trying to ferry Kuki militants.
The Naga Women's Union, the apex women's body, claimed that what had happened on that particular night was against the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 (UAPA), the Act which was reaffirmed on March 24, 2023 .
The activities stated to defy the guidelines of the Supreme Court and Ministry of Defence (MoD) to be strictly followed by security personnels.
The intimation and clandestine meeting at midnight between the Assam Rifles who are the National security guardians and the UPF (Kuki militant group) is unlawful, stating the act of carrying the insurgency group in the Assam Rifles vehicle was non adherence to the guidelines and the misuse of uniforms is a crime and it smirks the reputation of the military institutions, the women body mentioned.
In this regard, the women body stated that an appropriate sanction should be imposed strictly according to their offence whether commissioned officers or non commissioners who were involved in such unlawful activities.
Naga Women's Union urged the concerned authority that such unlawful activities need top level inquiry and unearthed the reasons for the act committed by the competent authority.
Further, the women's body appeals to the Ministry of Home Affairs(MHA) and Ministry of Defence (MoD) to look into it for national security.
Meanwhile, the All Naga Students' Association (ANSAM), Manipur has also condemned the nefarious activities of the Assam Rifles working hand-in gloves with the Kuki militants in the State on Feb 22, 2025 in Senapati district.
It was shocking to witness such fishy and provocative scenes displayed by the Central security forces and one ethnic armed group personnel in the public square during the wee hours, ANSAM stated the incident had aroused doubts thereby developing fear of Psychosis to the locals in the district.
Showcasing such bonhomie amongst Kuki militants and Indian security forces like the Assam Rifles in the town raised eyebrows and questioned the motive behind such acts.
The Association also takes strong exception and discourages any Organisation from randomly tagging the names of Naga leaders in their statement, where they are completely unrelated in the matter.
For the record, the Naga leader's entourage had never been guarded by the Indian army unlike the Kuki militants moving under the skirt of the Assam Rifles, the release stated.
To maintain peace in the region, ANSAM appeals to all concerned stakeholders in the State including security forces to maintain restraint and mutual respect taking into consideration the sentiments and positions of each community, ANSAM continued.
