State celebrates 75th Constitution Day

Commemorating the adoption of the Indian Constitution on November 26, 1949, Constitution Day was celebrated across the State today.
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal celebrated the day highlighting the pivotal role of the Constitution in shaping India as a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic.
The program began with the ceremonial reading of the Preamble to the Constitution, led by Professor N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
Faculty members, officials and other attendees collectively reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the constitutional values of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
In his address, Professor N Sanjib Singh emphasized the relevance of the Constitution in ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens.
He highlighted the importance of reflecting on the Constitution's principles in everyday life, especially in healthcare, education and governance.
The celebration saw active participation from Deputy Director (Admn), RIMS, Imphal, Principal of Dental & College of Nursing, Chief Account Officer cum Financial Officer, HODs, nursing officials and staff of RIMS, Imphal.
Separately, IIIT Manipur observed the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India this evening.
The event began at 4:30 pm with a lamp lighting ceremony.
Justice Kh Nobin Singh, Director, Manipur Judicial Academy (MJA), High Court of Manipur attended as the chief guest while Professor Krishnan Bhaskar, Director of IIIT Manipur presided over the event.
Justice Kh Nobin Singh presented a brief history of the observation of Constitution Day since 2016.He expressed his concern over the unawareness of existing laws by the public.
He also questioned the inability to resolve certain issues in society, especially in Manipur, be it the border issue or ILP issue starting from Statehood demand, inclusion of Manipuri in the 8th schedule of the Constitution.
He cited two reasons for this, i) improper enforcement of the rule of law and ii) lack of knowledge of law by the people.
He also fielded a suggestion of introducing chapters on basic provisions of law in the education system.
He concluded by urging the students to be aware of their duties and rights provided in the constitution.
Satish Kumar Dogra, IPS Director, General of Police, (DGP-TD), Tamil Nadu, graced the program as the guest of honour.
The program concluded with the prize distribution ceremony of various competitions.
The winners were awarded cash prizes ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 2,000 along with trophies and certificates.
Additionally, HIT Manipur also observed Janjatiya Gaurav Divas at its city campus in Mantripukhri today.
Meanwhile, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Manipur University, Canchipur celebrated Indian Constitution Day cum Jan Jantiya Gaurav Divas 2024 at the Court Hall of MU today.
A one-day seminar on "75 years of constitutional evolution issues and challenges" was conducted on the occasion.
The event was attended by Professor Thoidingjam Pumima.
Dean, School of Social Science, MU; Professor W Chandbabu, registrar, MU; Dr Y Premananda, Head, Law Department; Dr Laishram Santosh, Programme Co-ordinator, NSS Cell, MU and Dr Chungmeijai Matthew MK, in-charge, Jan Jatiya Gaurav Divas as the presidium members.
Seva Bharati Manipur also marked Constitution Day today at the Boudhik Hall of Seva Bharati Manipur, Nagamapal with a special program.
The event was graced by Saikhom Kaminikumar Singh, Advocate, Manipur High Court of Manipur, as the resource person, who shared insights on the significance of the Constitution of India.
The celebration was attended by Aribam Brajakumar Shanna, president, Seva Bharati Manipur and S Tarunkumar Sharma, Karyavah of RSS Manipur Pranta as presidium members for the event.
Lastly, Ibotombi Institute of Education, Canchipur also celebrated Constitution Day at its seminar hall at 10 am today.
The function was attended by students and staff of the Institution.
The main events of the function include reaffirmation oath taking of the Preamble of the Indian Constitution and participation of all present in the singing of the National anthem.
