Tangkhul Naga Ato Longphang (TNAL), one of four constituent bodies of the TNL hosted a felicitation programme at the parent organisation's conference hall today in honour of Qr.
Gam A Shimray, who was unanimously elected as the Indigenous Advisor for Asia Region to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD).
The Indigenous conference was held at China recently under the aegis of Asian Indigenous peoples' convention.
Qr Gam A Shimray, became one of the youngest Advisor among the 182 Indigenous Nations of the peoples convention which was officially declared by the United Nations Organisation this year.
He was born on March 27, 1972 and is the son of former MLA of Chingai constituency (L) Somi A Shimray of Chinjaroy village.
After completing his BA Hons and MA courses in Political science at Delhi University, Research Fellow at Kimmage Development Studies Centre, Holy Ghost College, Dublin, Ireland since 2005, Gam began his active career on social issues since 1993 in varied capacity from being the Convener of NPMHR, member of Technical and Policy core group of National Biodiversity strategy and action plan (India), member of Indigenous Knowledge and Biodiversity committee, Asian Indigenous Peoples pact foundation (Thailand) and International coordinator, International Indigenous forum on Biodiversity.
Stephen Angkan, President TNL in his speech stated that Gam is one of the youngest Naga scholars who had climbed to such a high and dignified position and that he has become a role model among the new Naga generation.
The programme was participated among others by Chairman TNAL, Wungnao Long, DLOs, NGOs, intellectuals, elders and many prominent social workers of the District.
