Imphal, June 26 2025:
Sharply reacting to the Samvidhan Hatya Diwas observed by the BJP across the country, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has asserted that it is not the Indian National Congress (INC) but BJP which has been violating the Constitution.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan, BT Road here today, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that BJP has been imposing undeclared emergency in the country for the past one decade.
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared National emergency on June 25, 1975 under Article 352 of the Indian Constitution with due approval of the Council of Ministers.
It was a legitimate move necessitated by the unrest and chaotic situation fuelled by groups led by RSS, he said.
On the other hand, the BJP Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been imposing undeclared emergency in the country for the past 11 years.
Using Government agencies, the BJP Government has been bulldozing the masses, violating human rights and even muzzling the media, he said.
The Congress party has been undertaking a Samvidhan Bachao campaign against such unconstitutional activities of the BJP Government, Meghachandra said.
The BJP's double-engine Government, instead of working to bring peace and normalcy in the State, imposed President's Rule in the State on February 13, 2025, he pointed out.
The ex-Chief Minister was talking about elections claiming that BJP will win 40 of the total 60 seats.
Given the prolonged suffering of the people and the protracted restive situation, talking about the election at the moment is rather offensive and distasteful, the MPCC president remarked.
"If BJP is bold enough, let's dissolve the existing State Assembly and seek fresh mandate from the people," he challenged.
Even the PR administration is unable to hold elections to ADCs, urban local bodies and Panchayats, he said.
