AMAC, associated CSOs to launch stir over Government's inaction on sacred sites

Bishnupur, September 25 2026: The Ancient Moirang Arts & Culture Protection & Development Committee (AMAC), together with combined Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), traditional institutions, religious bodies, and associated Lups will launch democratic agitation over continued Government inaction on sacred sites.

The AMAC president in a press release stated that since the eruption of the ethnic crisis on May 3, 2023, the centuries-old sacred sites (Khuvamlens) of the indigenous gods - including Thangjing Khuvamlen, Koubru Khuvamlen, Wangbren Khuvamlen, Kongba Maru, and Kondong Lairembi - have been unlawfully occupied, desecrated, and vandalised.

In view of the above, AMAC has urged the authorities concerned to facilitate safe transit and security coverage for a joint stakeholder ritual team to Thangjing Khuvamlen and to initiate the physical demarcation of the 4 hectares of protected land at the sacred site.

To prevent further illegal encroachment or desecration and to enable worship every Sunday, the demand for permanent security deployment has also been raised.

However, despite repeated appeals, the Government has failed to take positive steps or fulfil official assurances regarding security deployment, protection, and the restoration of ritualistic access to the Ibudhou Thangjing Sacred Site (Khuvamlen) and other indigenous religious sites.

Owing to delayed inaction, AMAC together with combined CSOs, traditional institutions, religious bodies, and associated Lups have been compelled to launch democratic agitation from September 29, 2026 demanding the fulfilment of security deployment, restoration of ritualistic access to indigenous religious sites.

AMAC also appealed to all to stand united in defending the historical and spiritual heritage.
