Thoubal, September 25 2025:
A sit-in protest was held today at Thoubal Melaground demanding justice for Chingsubam (O) Nongthombam Ningol Manju Devi (35), wife of Ch Niran, who tragically died following childbirth at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal.
The demonstration was led by Meira Paibis and residents of Thoubal Sabaltongba.
Speaking at the protest, Nongthombam Ningol Thokchom Ongbi Ranjita, sister of the deceased, said the circumstances that led to Manju's death were deeply unfortunate.
She recounted that Manju underwent an operation on September 20, and gave birth to a child.
However, doctors later informed the family that internal blood clots remained, requiring another surgery to remove her womb.
"After the second operation, her condition worsened.
Sadly, she passed away around 3.30 am on September 21," Ranjita said.
She alleged that negligence of doctors was to blame and appealed to the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and punish those responsible.
Vice president of SEVA Club, Sabaltongba, Sanasam Subhachandra stressed that when a patient is critically ill or injured, the first thing they do is rush to a hospital to treat so that their lives could be saved.
"Unfortunately, many people, including Manju, have recently succumbed while under treatment at RIMS.
Despite being admitted for delivery, she lost her life due to negligence," he said.
Condemning the incident in the strongest terms, Subhaschandra urged RIMS authorities to initiate a proper inquiry to ensure such incidents never occur again.
He also appealed to civil society organisations and state bodies to extend full support in seeking justice for Manju and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
