Imphal, September 25 2010:
People in Imphal area are facing non-availability of Kerosene at the normal rate even though they are buying the same is selling at the rate from Rs 60 to Rs 70 a litre in the grey market.
The non-availability of this item is due to bad stock position, said Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution minister Y Erabot told the Hueiyen Lanpao.
He said that his department is yet to distribute quotas of the PDS item (Kerosene) from April this year due to shortage of stock.
For April, some quantity has been distributed through the authorized dealers.
Presently, only 600 kilolitre is in the government stock, he said maintaining that due to the disturbances on the national highways where the item is to be procured, the stock could not be maintained.
As there were no disturbances so far as blockade and bandh are concern, import of Kerosene will be started.
His department is trying its best to replenish the stock.
Once there is enough stock, the problem of non-availability of kerosene will be solved, he said.
CAF & PD is also conducting mobile selling of kerosene in Imphal area with the available stock at the rate of Rs 50 per litre.
At some area, the same is selling through local clubs, he added.
