Samvidhan Hatya Diwas observed

Joining the rest of the country, the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur, observed "Samvidhan Hatya Diwas" at the Palace Auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Imphal today.
The event aimed to reflect on the impact of the Emergency imposed in 1975 and promote the values of democracy and patriotism.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance), Manipur, said that on this day, fifty years ago, India witnessed the imposition of a Nationwide Emergency, which led to the suspension of civil liberties, erosion of constitutional safeguards, and an unprecedented centralization of executive power.
He also elaborated on the Suspension of Fundamental Rights during the 1975 Emergency which led to widespread arrest of student leaders and social activists, political opponents and journalists across the country.
"June 25 was notified as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas by the Ministry of Home Affairs and other Government bodies to commemorate the imposition of the Emergency in India on June 25, 1975, and to pay tribute to those who suffered during that period", added Vivek Kumar.
Screening of a short film on "Democracy and Patriotism" and a dance performance by students of Government Dance College were the main highlights of the event.
