TPC formed to defend Thadous

The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), Thadou Inpi Mizoram (TIMZ) and Thadou Inpi Assam (TIA) have resolved to constitute Thadou Protection Committee (TPC) as a lawful civil defence body to safeguard Thadou lives and properties in cooperation with Indian security forces.
The last rites of "Thadou and Manipur Peace Martyr" Pu Nehkam Jomhao (59) were performed on September 13, 2025 at Thadou Veng, Diphu, Karbi Anglong, Assam, with full honours in accordance with Thadou customs and Christian rituals.
Thadou people from across India and around the world participated both physically and virtually to pay their final respects and stand in solidarity with the cause for which he gave his life, said a press release issued by TIM .
Following the solemn ceremony, a resolution was unanimously adopted through the Thadou People's Declaration, 2025 to end all forms of payment, levy or donation to Kuki entities.
It was also resolved to constitute the Thadou Protection Committee (TPC) as a lawful civil defence body to safeguard Thadou lives and property in cooperation with Indian security forces.
It was further resolved to declare September 13 as Thadou Martyrs' Day, to be observed annually in remembrance of all Thadou martyrs, beginning with Peace Martyr Pu Nehkam Jomhao.
The three Thadou Inpis, apex bodies of the Thadou tribe, have called upon the Government of India, Government of Assam and Government of Manipur to urgently act on the charter of demands placed before them, in the interest of peace, justice, and security for the Thadou people.
The charter of demands are immediate hand over of the murder case to the NIA for a thorough probe into the involvement of Kuki militants linked to Manipur violence; facilitate a formal Memorandum of Community Understanding between Thadou and Kuki communities to guarantee respect for Thadou identity and peaceful coexistence; terminate SoO agreements with Kuki militant groups and dismantle their camps in Assam and neighbouring States; grant ex-gratia/ compensation and compassionate appointment to the martyr's family; and establish a permanent memorial in Karbi Anglong to honour his sacrifice.
"We further reaffirm our commitment to uphold the Constitution of India, foster peaceful coexistence with all neighbouring communities, and reject extremism and communal hatred in all its forms", it said.
The Thadou People's Declaration, 2025, was ratified and endorsed by 10 Thadou organisations, viz., Thadou Community International (TCI), Thadou Students' Association (TSA), Thadou Women's Association (TWA), Thadou Youth Association (TYA), Thadou Elders' Association (TEA), Thadou Academic Society (TAS), Thadou Chiefs' Council (TCC), Thadou Human Rights Advocacy (THRA), Thadou Literature Society, and North East Thadou Sustainable Economic Development Society (NETSEDS) .
