Bootcamp on "Unmanned Aerial Systems" begins at IIIT Manipur

Imphal, July 19 2025: A 5-day drone bootcamp on "Unmanned Aerial Systems" began today at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (1111) Manipur city campus in Mantripukhri.

The bootcamp was organised by IIIT Manipur in collaboration with IIT(ISM) Dhanbad with the aim to significantly enhance capacity in the rapidly evolving field of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) .

As per a release issued by IIIT Manipur, the bootcamp focuses on crucial aspects of guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) for drones.

It features a comprehensive curriculum that includes both theoretical sessions to build foundational knowledge and intensive hands-on training in drone electronics, providing participants with practical skills essential for the industry.

The inaugural address was delivered by Professor Krishnan Baskar, Director of IIIT Manipur, who emphasized the growing importance of UAS technology.

A special address was given by Dr Suvrokamal Dutta, an acclaimed international conservative economic and foreign policy expert, sharing his insights on the broader implications of technological advancements.

Dr Nagesh Ch gave the welcome address while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Navanath Saharia.

The programme has drawn significant interest, with a total of 135 participants, including 40 members from the armed forces, highlighting the critical role UAS plays in various sectors, from defense to civilian applications.

The collaborative initiative underscored the commitment of both IIIT Manipur and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad to fostering expertise and innovation in cutting-edge technologies crucial for national development and security.

Simultaneously, IIIT Manipur also organised a faculty development lecture on the topic "Research & Innovation: A Way Forward for a Developed Bharat", which was delivered by Dr MK Surappa, INSA Senior Scientist and Adjunct Professor, National Institute for Advanced Studies, Bangalore.

Prof Surappa's lecture focused on the research environment in India in comparison with the rest of the world, and how India can excel in the field of research and innovation based on incisive observations.
