Imphal, May 19 2026:
Following reports of panic buying and buying of petrol in large volumes in containers, a team of CAF&PD officials led by OSD (POL) Haobam Bobby today carried out at drive at some oil pumps.
Since the last couple of days, long queues have been seen at oil pumps and most oil pumps have been closing before 12 noon.
Sources said that there are sufficient volumes of both petrol and diesel in the IOCL's Malom depot.
One official of Malom depot told The Sangai Express that the depot has 20 days' requirement of diesel and 17 days' requirement of petrol in stock.
Meanwhile, CAF&PD OSD (POL) Haobam Bobby has appealed to all customers to avoid hoarding and buying petrol and diesel in jerry cans and other containers.
He said that there are abundant stocks of petrol and diesel in the depot.
Imposition of bandhs or blockades does not necessarily mean fuel stocks will get exhausted.
Moreover, fuels are being shipped in continuously.
Fuel tankers arrived at Imphal yesterday and the day before.
Saying that he visited several oil pumps one after another, Bobby informed that he saw some people buying petrol in jerry cans/containers.
Taking fuels in jerry cans without permission from the district administration concerned is illegal, he said.
On the closure of most oil pumps a few days back, the OSD said that the oil marketing companies operating in Manipur are IOCL, BPCL, LPCL and Nayara.
Out of these companies, it is only the IOCL which has its depot in Manipur.
BPCL is constructing its own depot and it is nearing completion.
Oil pumps of these oil marketing companies which do not have their depots are fed directly tanker trucks.
When tanker trucks get stranded on the road due to several factors, the oil pumps may become dry, leading to closure, Bobby said.
IOCL too does not release oil from its depot on Sundays.
This may also lead to closure of oil pumps if the volume of oil released on Saturday gets exhausted, he added.
He also mentioned that e-KYC is mandatory for all LPG consumers.
