Villagers uncover hijack bid, attempt to murder

After successfully identifying the culprits and extending a helping hand to a driver who was abducted earlier and nearly murdered, the Maram Khullen Circle villagers have spelt out the whole episode.
While strongly condemning the act, the Circle which consists of 14 Maram villages, has warned that such criminal activities will not be accepted nor tolerated in the future.
On November 6, a Bolero bearing registration number NL-07A-6214 driven by Jakir Hussian, was waylaid and picked-up by two persons who on the pretext of hiring the vehicle till Mao-gate took it to the deserted Maram-Peren road (now NH-102/A) .
However, after driving into the new highway for about 4-5 kms at around 8 pm, the two perpetrators got down from the vehicle on the pretext of attending nature call.
Suddenly, they demanded the vehicle's key and attacked the driver.
The driver however managed to escape, jumping into the jungles and walked some kilometers through the night to finally come across a cultivator's hut.
He was finally rescued by the Maram Khullen villagers who were sleeping in the huts of their paddy fields for the harvest.
The villagers attended tended the injured driver with first aid and later located the owner of the vehicle identified as Yiben Lotha of Dimapur.
The Maram Thangal region took over the matter and handed over the vehicle and driver to the owner.
The two accused persons involved in the incident were later identified as Padikhamba s/o Kaichunglungbou of Lamka part II and Kenglungbou s/o Namgombou of Lamka Liangmei village in Nagaland.
The former is allegedly a self styled Raja Peyu of NSCN-IM of Makuilongdi-Zeliangrong Region.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement the Maram Khullen Circle Villages has strongly condemned the incident and warned that any attempt to tarnish the image of the Maram people will not be tolerated.
It also noted that previous records of outsiders attempting to carry out such crimes in Maram Khullen area along the Maram-Peren road have been recorded.
The villagers also demanded the authority concerned handling the case to handover the culprit to the villagers.
