Mass social work drive clears National Highway-2 for safer travel

Senapati, September 14 2025:
A massive social work drive focusing on highway cleanliness and maintenance was carried out along National Highway-2 on Saturday.
The initiative included cutting tall grasses on blind curves, filling potholes, and maintaining drainage systems to ensure safer travel.
The programme was organised by the Mao Baptist Churches Association (MBCA) Youth Department in collaboration with the Senapati District Drivers Welfare Union and the Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers Welfare Union, Manipur.

Addressing the media, A Neli, Youth Secretary of MBCA, said that the youth department has been spearheading cleanliness drives along NH-2 since 2017 under the theme "Cleanliness is Next to Godliness" .
He urged citizens to protect the environment, keep it green and clean, and adopt healthy practices for a better life.
Athikho Ranbir, Advisor of the Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers Welfare Union, Manipur stated that earlier efforts had already begun with the clearance of tall grasses along blind curves.
He informed that this year's effort saw the participation of more than 1,000 volunteers, who worked to complete the pending clearance between Mao Gate and Senapati district headquarters.
Volunteers also repaired potholes with stone pebbles and mud while ensuring proper drainage along the highway.
The large-scale campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from MBCA youth, members of the two drivers' welfare unions, and personnel from the 109 Battalion CRPF, Mao Post, marking a strong collective step towards safer roads and a cleaner environment.
