Imphal, August 13 2024:
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has written to Education Minister Th Basantakumar with a demand to remove the Chairman of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) Akham Joykumar.
DESAM, in a lengthy four page memorandum, said that they have repeatedly raised questions on the role of the then Secretary and Controller of Examination of BSEM in tempering marks obtained by the students in HSLCE 2018.Saying that the Manipur Government constituted a Committee over the issue and both the Secretary and Controller of Examination were removed in 2018, DESAM claimed that the present Government, unfortunately, has reinstated Akham Joykumar Singh, the ousted Secretary of the BSEM, with promotion as Chairman of BSEM by changing/manipulating even the retirement age of the post of Chairman (BSEM).
DESAM said that the alleged unlawful and posting of Akham Joykumar Singh at the BSEM as Chairman again was against the desire of the student communities.
DESAM listed some 'serious issues' viz backdoor appointment, question leak of 2023 and misuse of funds in the letter to the Education Minister which seeks removal of the BSEM Chairman immediately.
The student organisation also demanded that a vigilance case be taken up against him (Akham Joykumar) .
