Handwashing awareness drive underway in Kakching schools

Kakching, July 13 2026:
A district-wide handwashing awareness programme is being conducted in schools across Kakching district as part of the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026 to promote proper hand hygiene among students.
The campaign is jointly organised by the District Zonal Education Office (ZEO) and the District Health Society under the supervision of the District Administration, Kakching.
Awareness sessions have already been held at Kakching Khullen Upper Primary School, Kakching Khunou High School, Kakching Makha High School, Practising Junior High School, Kakching Turel Wangma Junior High School, Irengband Upper Primary School and several other Government and private schools.
The programme will continue till July 31.The campaign seeks to educate students on the importance of washing hands before meals and maintaining proper hand hygiene to prevent diarrhoeal and other waterborne diseases.
An initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026 focuses on reducing childhood diarrhoea, particularly during the monsoon season, by promoting handwashing with soap, safe drinking water and improved sanitation.
It also emphasises the availability and use of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and Zinc for the effective management of diarrhoeal diseases.
Under the campaign, schools have been identified as key platforms for promoting healthy hygiene practices through awareness programmes and practical demonstrations to help prevent the spread of waterborne diseases.
