Imphal, May 13 2026:
Several items were stolen and property vandalised at Modern College campus near Porompat Police Station, Imphal East, with the thefts occurring over two consecutive nights, Principal Prof N Romabati said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press meet at the college campus, Prof Romabati said unidentified persons broke into the Multipurpose Hall on the night of May 10-11 and took away an amplifier and fittings from the washroom.
Attempts were also made to break doors of the newly constructed college building, she added.
On the following night of May 11-12, the miscreants targeted the library.
Although the door was not broken, the room was found ransacked, she said.
All electrification wires were cut and several washroom items were stolen, the Principal said.
"The incidents are deeply distressing", Prof Romabati said, appealing for the arrest of those involved in the theft and vandalism of college property.
A police report has been filed at Porompat Police Station and the Directorate has been informed of the incidents, she said.
The Principal urged authorities to construct a boundary wall around the college campus at the earliest and to post a permanent chowkidar.
She added that college property had been stolen on earlier occasions as well.
