Ukhrul, March 13 2015 : The eastern border area village student union, Sambu Raiping Katamnao Long, SRKL of Ukhrul district has expressed strong resentment over the purported negligence and abandonment of Sambu area by the State Government, reports Mungchan Zimik.

Sambu area comprises of 21 villages from Ukhrul and Kamjong blocks.

Most of the villages are cut off from road connectivity and other basic infrastructure.

Speaking to media persons, SRKL president Nathan said at least 11 villages of Sambu, till today, rely on the old track laid by the British which are yet to be connected with a motorable road.

Moreover the SDC headquarters at Sahamphung which has been upgraded has not been inaugurated till date, he added.

The construction of new roads from Homlang/Sahamphung to Chamu and Chamu to Kachouphung which would connect the region with the rest of the district has also been initiated only partially under the PMGSY.

The student body has further urged contractors concerned to strictly follow the PGMSY guidelines in the interest of Sambu.

Natives of Khayang also deliberated on the various problems faced by the villagers.

According to them a kilogram of salt and sugar, at present, cost around Rs 60 and Rs 80 in the area while hiring vehicle costs more than Rs 10,000 for a distance of about 90 kilometres.

The area also faces problems related to power, connectivity and health care.

Added to these, most of the Government employees, especially school teachers, still practice the culture of substitution till date.

SRKL has therefore urged authorities concerned and local MLAs to look into the woes of the region.
