Birth anniv of Dr BR Ambedkar observed

Imphal, April 12 2025: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Manipur University, Canchipur, organized a special event to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and observed Poshan Pakhwada at the Centenary Hall of Manipur University.

The event was held under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The programme was held under the supervision of Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University, as per a press release.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including: Prof Ch Ibohal Singh, Dean of Students' Welfare, Manipur University as the chief guest; Dr Y Premananda Singh, Head, Department of Law, Manipur University and Prof S Opendra Singh, Head, Department of Statistics, Manipur University s the guests of honour and Dr Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell as the president of the event.

The programme commenced with the NSS song, followed by a solemn floral tribute to the portrait of Dr BR Ambedkar.

Following the formal ceremony, the NSS Cell organized a series of impactful activities, including a poster campaign focusing on Dr BR Ambedkar's ideals and Poshan Pakhwada, a cleanliness drive across the university campus and an extempore speech competition by NSS volunteers on the theme "Healthy Lifestyle to Address Obesity in Children", in connection with the Poshan initiative.

Additionally, the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan organised a Padayatra in observance of Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanti in coordination with NSS, NCC, Bharat Scouts and Guides.

The Padayatra was flagged off by K Jadumani Singh, MCS, Addl Deputy Commissioner from the Western Gate of Kangla and culminated near BT Rark.

Altogether 300 youths took part in the Padayatra and the pledge taking of the Indian Preamble.
