Eco-tourism in Senapati: Nature's artistry unveiled

Ecotourism is a form of tourism involving visiting fragile, pristine and relatively undisturbed natural areas conserving the areas and improving the well-being of the local people.
It aims to build environment awareness, provide direct financial benefits for conservation, empower the local people and promote local cultures.
Senapati district with its serene beauty, abundant flora, fauna and cultural heritage has immense potential to develop and emerge as a leading destination of ecotourism.
To promote Ecotourism in the district, Senapati Forest Division is working in collaboration with the local stakeholders and various line departments to develop Senapati into a premier ecotourism destination.
The tourist destination at Dziiduri, Tunngam village is selected as the pilot destination.
A meeting of the stakeholders was held on Thursday in the office chamber of DFO Senapati and discussed the future action plan to promote and develop Ecotourism at Dziiduri.
The first line of action was discussed in length and stated that it will generate mass scale awareness to sensitize the public on the issues of conservation and how ecotourism has the potential to benefit the people who live in the area.
Aneow Ngaopuo a member of the Hills Ecotourism Adventure Team Manipur highlighted that "there are many activities which the team plans to carry out but failed due to the lack of funds.
The initiatives by the Forest Department in promoting ecotourism has boosted their morale and encouraged them to strive forward in their goal to conserve nature" .
He also hopes that the initiative will encourage and inspire youths from all across Senapati to promote ecotourism and conserve nature.
On a different note, PVTG Van Dhan Vikas Kendra under PM JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri-Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan) Scheme, a meeting with stakeholders and beneficiaries of Maram Tribe under Senapati district was held at the office of the Divisional Forest Officer/Senapati.
Currently, there are 2 (two) VDVKC formed under the scheme, namely, Naojai VDVK and Willong VDVK with beneficiaries from Lairouching, Willong Khullen, Willong Khunou, Katomei, Katomei Centre and Maram Khunou Village.
Leaders and Representatives of both Naojai VDVK and Willong VDVK along with representatives from Maram Union were present during the meeting.
Shanngam S, IFS, DFO/Senapati Forest Division emphasized on the importance of this scheme to uplift the social and economic status of PVTG population in the district.
A presentation for the same was shared and explained to the group.
The intervention involves income generating avenues such as value addition of minor forest produce (MFP), handloom, usage of biomass to produce charcoal briquettes etc .
