National seminar on AI for social transformation organised

The Department of Social Work, Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram, organised a two-day National Seminar on "Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Social Transformation: Opportunities, Challenges and Future Directions" on October 8 and 9, 2026 .
Sponsored by the Manipur State Commission for Women, the seminar brought together 253 faculty members, academicians, scholars and students, with 23 research papers presented, to deliberate on the opportunities, challenges and future implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various fields.
Participants from Dhanamanjuri University, Manipur; Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong; Assam University, Silchar; Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh; Tezpur University, Assam; and Don Bosco College, Maram, among others, presented research papers on AI and its applications across different fields.
The seminar featured resource sessions by Dr Moses Maguipuinamei, Librarian-in-Charge, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University-Regional Campus Manipur, on "AI Beyond Technology: A Philosophical Perspective," and Dr LV Makinei, Principal of Saklim Christian English School, on "AI in Gastronomy: Transforming the Future of Food, Flavour and Culinary Innovation".
Research presentations explored AI in education, healthcare, social work, youth empowerment, sustainable tourism, employment, cultural identity, and digital security and privacy.
Discussions also highlighted ethical challenges and AI's potential to promote social inclusion and community development.
