Imphal, October 08 2012: Greeting the people of Kangleipak on the 35th Raising Day of PREPAK, its chairman N Nongdrenkhomba has asserted that the day the land was 'annexed' by India on October 15, 1949 and the day the 'Permit System' was trashed on November 18, 1950 are two of the worst days for the people.

In a statement issued to the press today, Nongdrenkhomba said that during the time of the British and during the time when Manipur was under its own kings, the Permit System was in vogue under the Darbar, to keep off outsiders so that the culture and identity of the people are not diluted.

However after Manipur merged with India on October 15, 1949, the Permit System was revoked and today, the land is literally flooded by outsiders.

Other than eroding the status and existence of a 'Nation' such a policy is aimed at obliterating the identity and culture of the people and community, asserted the leader of the outfit.

Other than 'military occupation' Kangleipak is today flooded by outsiders, threatening its very identity.

Acknowledging the rapid stride the world has made, the outfit stated that this progress has come hand in hand with the newly gained freedom of many peoples.

Only recently Quebec and Catalonia have achieved the status of Self Governing Nation, though it is still not full sovereignty.

South Sudan is another example of a people getting full sovereignty, which is their right, said the statement.

The people and the land too must keep pace with the changes taking place across the world, said Nongdrenkhomba and added that for far too long the people have been existing in a state of inertia.

He also urged the people to stand and fight for their rights to be counted amongst the comity of Nations.

It is time to adopt new knowledge and gain greater insights.

It is now nearly 63 years Manipur became an 'occupied territory' of Manipur, alleged the statement and added that the struggle to regain the 'lost sovereignty' has been going on without flagging.

To counter the movement, the Government of India as well the Government of Manipur have using different types of warfare and the military to subdue the people by subjecting them to all sorts of hardships.

However this has not succeeded in breaking the back bone of the movement, contended Nongdrenkhomba and added that they will not succeed and have no reason to succeed either.

The conflict situation will continue so long as the alien rule continues, alleged the outfit and added that it can only be resolved when the Government of India withdraw from the soil of Manipur along with its military.
