The 32nd Khongjom Tarpan Numit was observed with great reverence at the Diamond Radio Complex, where hundreds gathered to pay floral tributes to the martyrs of the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 .
The Langban Tarpan Katpa ritual was organized by the Khongjom War Memorial Trust (KWMT) to commemorate the forefathers who laid down their lives at Khongjom.
The event was led by KWMT president and former Minister Moirangthem Hemanta, who, along with the gathering, offered floral tributes at Khongjom Turel, which flows through the Diamond Radio Complex.
Speaking on the occasion, Hemanta stressed the importance of remembering the sacrifices of heroes like Paona Brajabashi, stating, "Many martyrs have gone and many will come, but their sacrifice for the motherland must always remain our priority" .

He lamented that the present generation lacks the courage and selflessness shown by the forefathers, adding that they cannot even sacrifice their positions for the motherland.
He continued that the Khongjom Tarpan has been observed annually since 1994, a tradition initiated by late Minister Moirangthem Ibotombi and Khongjom Prabha Padmashree Awardee Ibotombi.
Though the ritual was previously held at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex, it was shifted to Diamond Radio Complex starting in 2023, due to government restriction.
Hemanta further stressed that the ritual remains significant as it helps the people remember the great forefathers by paying tribute in remembrance of their sacrifice made for the freedom of their motherland.
Meanwhile the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur also organised Langban Chara Tamba rituals at the Khongjom Turel near the Memorial Complex, in memory of the martyrs who laid down their lives during the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.After the rituals, FOCS president BM Yaima stated that the ritual was organised to offer prayers and tributes to the brave forefathers who have sacrificed for their motherland.
He emphasised that the legacy of the martyrs instills in the people a spirit of patriotism and duty that must be carried forward with pride.
