According to a release issued by AHPI, in an era where quality healthcare has become a global priority, palliative care has emerged as a critical component of the healthcare system, especially in regions like Manipur.
Palliative care focuses on improving the quality of life for patients with life limiting illnesses by addressing their physical and emotional needs.
Nearly 400 in a population of 1,00,000 need palliative care.
Considering 30 lakhs as the population of Manipur, about 12,000 people require palliative care at present.
Palliative Care Society, Imphal have served about 400 in and around Imphal and the State palliative care teams are doing several hundred more.
The recent trends in palliative care in Manipur highlight the region's commitment in bridging the huge gap to provide compassionate and comprehensive care to its residents, enhancing their lives.
Palliative care facilities offer a holistic approach that addresses patients' emotional, psychological, and medical requirements.
Their primary goal is to improve patients' comfort and overall well-being by reducing pain and controlling symptoms.
The care teams include counsellors and psychologists who offer emotional support to patients and their families.
This support is crucial in helping them cope with the stress, anxiety, and depression that often accompany serious illnesses.
Open communication between patients, relatives, and medical professionals is encouraged in palliative care.
Making decisions on a patient's treatment is made possible by this cooperative approach, which guarantees that the patient's desires and preferences are met.
In the last few years, the State has invested in training healthcare professionals in palliative care, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to provide high quality care.
This focus on capacity building is crucial for sustaining and expanding palliative care services across the State.
Effective symptom management is a cornerstone of palliative care.
Carers who are well-trained can recognize and respond to symptoms promptly, using appropriate interventions to alleviate pain and discomfort.
This proactive approach is crucial for maintaining patients' quality of life.
Patients in palliative care often face emotional and psychological challenges as well.
Sensitized carers can provide empathetic support, helping patients cope with fear, anxiety, and depression.
This support is vital for patients' mental well-being and can significantly impact their overall experience.
AHPI Manipur Chapter is specifically aiming at providing the impetus to bring quality Palliative Care in the state of Manipur by empowering its future trainers and caregivers.
