Imphal, October 07 2026:
The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, on Saturday remanded an alleged vehicle lifter, 21-year-old Md Mustakim alias Parwes, to judicial custody till October 17 .
Accused Md Mustakim, son of Md Hellal Ahamed of Lilong Chabok Mairen Khun, was produced before the Court by a team of Imphal police after completion of his police custody period, along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
The Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) for the State submitted that the accused allegedly disclosed that on September 29, he travelled from Lilong to Imphal in a Tata Magic vehicle.
He then went to North AOC, which he allegedly visited frequently to consume intoxicating substances.
The accused allegedly told police that he consumed a bottle of cough syrup along with one Valium 10 tablet before proceeding towards the parking area where the vehicle was parked.
As he had two Honda Activa keys with him, he allegedly decided to try them on the Activa parked there.
One of the keys reportedly worked, following which he allegedly stole the vehicle and drove it to his residence.
The APP further submitted that sufficient prima facie evidence had been found establishing the involvement of the accused in the commission of the crime.
However, the accused was allegedly reluctant to disclose the identity of his co-accused and other details related to the crime.
The APP prayed for judicial custody remand to facilitate further investigation.
After hearing the submissions of the APP and perusing the case record, the Court remanded the accused to judicial custody till October 17 to facilitate further investigation.
